Memorial services for Louie Caraway Guess of Brookhaven are 2p.m., Sunday, March 10, at First United Methodist Church.Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Guess, 93, died March 5, 2002, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Mount Olive and was a longtime resident ofBrookhaven. She attended Whitworth College and MississippiSouthern.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for 16 years and was anewspaper reporter, columnist and feature writer for Brookhavenpapers for 10 years. She was the recipient of the Exchange Club’sGolden Deeds Award for her contributions toward the betterment ofthe community. She organized the Golden Agers Club and was selectedfor the Brookhaven District Women’s Society of Christian Service(WSCS) Award as the person most effectively involved in missions inthis area. For this, she was recognized for more than 40 yearsservice. The First United Methodist Church named her the 1998Senior Adult of the Year.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Johnnie C. Guess Sr.;her parents, Dr. George J. Caraway and Annie Cowart Caraway; herbrothers, the Rev. Porter Caraway, George Caraway and DavidCaraway; and her sisters, Rosalie Caraway, Mary McKee, NanBurnworth, and Marie Maxwell.
Survivors are her sons, John C. Guess Jr. and wife Ursula ofMunich, Germany, and Charles Michael Guess and wife Mary of Baker,La.; brother, W. J. “Bill” Caraway; her granddaughter, Julia Guessof Munich, Germany; and her special friend, Lenora “Dixie” Rials ofBogue Chitto.
