Memorial services for LaNelle Rushing Thurman of Hammond, La.,are 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, at First Baptist Church ofHammond.
Visitation is Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Thurman, 78, died Oct. 22, 2002, at the residence of herdaughter, Stephanie Harper. She was born in Natchez and lived inBrookhaven before moving to Hammond in 1956 with her formerhusband, T. Melton Thurman.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution,the Hammond Garden Club, and the Altrusa Club. She was a member ofFirst Baptist Church of Hammond, where she had served on thebuilding committee and as hostess for many church functions. Shewas affectionately known by many in Hammond as “Mama T.” She hadtraveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ida and Ernest Rushing;and her brother, Robert Rushing.
Survivors are her daughters, Stephanie Harper of Hammond, DonnaAdams of Pumpkin Center, and Linda Thurman of Los Angeles; herson-in-law, the Rev. Michael Adams of Pumpkin Center; her brother,Donald Rushing of Scio, Ore.; her grandchildren, Melanie HarperJarreau, Heather Adams Sullivan, Jonathan Adams, and Jennifer AdamsTeague, and her great-grandchildren, Reaghan Jarreau, Anna Adams,and Eli Adams, all of the Hammond area.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund,North Oaks Hospice or Richard Murphy Hospice Foundation.
