West Lincoln Lady Bears slug Natchez Cathedral

Left-centerfielder Ashley Palomarez homered, tripled and singledto lead West Lincoln’s Lady Bears in a 15-5 Monday whipping ofNatchez Cathedral in Division 7-1A action. West Lincoln finishedwith 23 hits in the 6-inning game.

“I was glad to see us hit the ball as well as we did,” said WestLincoln coach Andrew Redd. “We had been weak on that the last fewgames.”

Redd’s division-leading girls had struggled offensively in lastSaturday’s North Pike Invitational.

Brittani Phillips was the winning pitcher. She walked 2 battersand struck out none.

Brandi McGraw took the loss for Cathedral.

West Lincoln (16-4, 6-0) roared to a 9-0 lead in the secondinnings. Phillips singled twice and doubled. Carrie Fauver doubledtwice. Holli Smith and Lauren Smith doubled and singled.

Collecting 3 singles for the Lady Bears was Alicia Kennedy. Twohits were contributed by April Kennedy and Brittnee Smith. KelseyBass singled.

“We struggled tonight,” said Cathedral coach Erin Binns. “Ourdefense was off and we couldn’t get hits.”

Cathedral (7-8, 4-4) got a home run from Jordan Chandler.Jennifer Bernard and Kristina Brumfield contributed 2 singlesapiece.

West Lincoln resumes play today, visiting Dexter for a divisionvarsity game, starting at 4 p.m.
