The undefeated Brookhaven Academy Cougars face their toughesttest of the 2004 football season Friday night when they host theOak Forest Yellow Jackets in an important District 4-AA matchup.The game kicks off at 7 p.m.

In area academy play Friday, Presbyterian Christian visitsCopiah, Parklane travels to Central Private, La. and Sylva-Bay isat Union.

Brookhaven (7-0, 3-0) is riding an 11-game winning streak,including the final four games of the 2003 season.

Last Friday, the Cougars celebrated homecoming with a key 54-6trouncing of Silliman Institute while the Yellow Jackets crushedAdams County Christian School 39-3.

Oak Forest (6-1, 4-0) and Centreville (6-1, 4-0) are tied forfirst place in the division. The Jackets won the distrct lastyear.

Brookhaven has outscored opponents 287 to 88 this year. OakForest has allowed just 39 points and has recorded 251 points.

Brookhaven Academy head coach Ray Ishee was asked what impressedhim about the Yellow Jackets. “Team speed. They can all run. Theyhave skilled folks.

“It’s going to be a war,” continued Ishee. “Bonner Fitzgerald(6-0, 200) is a fullback who is a really good football player.Shane Holland (6-1, 190) is back at quarterback. He is excellent.They have good offensive and defensive linemen.’

Pass protection is going to be a key for Brookhaven against OakForest.

“We are going to have to throw and catch the ball well,” addedIshee. “We have to protect (quarterback) Price (Sessums). Ondefense, we have to make them earn it. It is going to be a goodfootball game. The kids are excited about playing.”

In the win over Silliman last Friday, Sessums completed 11 of 19passes for 308 yards and 4 touchdowns. He rushed the football 8times for 42 yards and a TD.

The top rusher for the Cougars was Cameron Achord with 12carries for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns. Achord caught 2 passes for73 yards and a pair of TDs.

On defense, Dusty Bratton led Brookhaven with 9 tackles andblocked a punt. Also making 9 stops was Paul Davis.

In last year’s game, Oak Forest dumped Brookhaven 27-7.

Copiah, coached by Mitch Mitchell, benefitedfrom the return of senior tailback/kicker Price Henley last Friday.The Gallman-based Colonels dumped the Riverfield, La., Raiders31-6.

Copiah improved to 4-3 on the season and 1-2 in District 3-AAplay.

Presbyterian Christian (2-5, 1-3) was pounded 39-7 last Fridayby Jackson Prep in AAA action.

In the win over Riverfield last week, Henley led Copiah with 20carries for 104 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. He also kicked a21-yard field goal.

Colonel quarterback Bennett Wilson completed 5-of-6 passes for63 yards.

Defensively, Scott Akin paced Copiah with 10 tackles. Jake Guessmade 9 stops.

Parklane, coached by Charlie Newlon, fell toMadison-Ridgeland Academy 26-6 last Friday. Newlon’s Pioneers (3-3,0-3) travel to Baker, La., to face the Privateers of CentralPrivate Friday night.

Central Private (2-5, 0-4) fell to Lamar School 50-20 lastweek.

In last season’s game, Parklane shut out Central Private28-0.

Union, coached by Carl Griffith, was pounded byAmite School Center 40-6 last Friday. The Georgetown-based Saints(1-5, 0-2) prepare for Sylva-Bay Academy. Sylvia-Bay (3-4, 2-2)fell to Newton County 37-18 last Friday.
