Round Two of the state slowpitch softball playoffs arrivesSaturday and three Lincoln County-based teams remain alive. The OleBrook Lady Panthers host Picayune in Class 4A, the West LincolnLady Bears host Puckett and the Bogue Chitto Lady ‘Cats travel toSebastopol for the South state semifinals in Class 1A.

In neighboring Pike County, North Pike’s Lady Jaguars invadeHazlehurst tomorrow for a second-round, Class 3A best-of-threeseries. The South state finals are next Tuesday in allclassifications. State championship finals are next Saturday atV.A. Fields in Jackson.

Ole Brook Home

Picayune requested an 11 a.m. starting time for tomorrow’sseries. The Lady Maroon Tide (19-2) swept Wayne County in theopening round while the host Lady Panthers were forced to 3 gamesin eliminating D’Iberville.

Coach Lisa Covington’s Panthers (21-5) whipped D’Iberville 17-5in the opener but lost the second game 9-7 before winning the thirdgame by a 7-1 margin. Brittany Smith was the winning pitcher.

Ole Brook collected 52 hits in the tripleheader. Smith, AshleySykes, Terri Hodges, Christi Martin, Katie Smith, Kelly Vinson,Katie Stewart, Jana Wallace and Julie Brister were among themultiple hitters.

Lady ‘Cats On Road

Bogue Chitto (24-3), coached by Scott Leggett, is aiming for areturn to the state finals. Their primary focus is on Sebastopoltomorrow. Sebastopol eliminated Stringer 14-5 and 11-1 while theLady ‘Cats were whipping Weir 16-1 and 17-1.

BC’s Latoya Braxton was the winning pitcher in the doubleheader.She also homered as the ‘Cats collected 40 hits.

Candace Avants singled twice and homered in BC’s 17-1 victory.Devon Welch and Jessie Miller doubled and singled twice. ShaquilleBurton homered. Meleah Brown and Kelli Howard tripled.

Lady Bears At Home

West Lincoln (17-8) swept Nanih Waiya 12-5 and 8-3 on the roadTuesday. Puckett (16-10) also swept its series, beating Lake 11-1and 13-2.

Britnee Smith pitched the victories over Nanih Waiya. It wasSmith’s first action since being sidelined by a lower backailment.

Coach Andrew Redd’s Lady Bears were directed by Holli Smith whohit 5 singles and a triple in the twinbill sweep. Carrie Fauvertripled, doubled and singled. Keri Easley had 2 triples, a doubleand a single.
