BA boys test Copiah in semifinals

The host Brookhaven Academy Cougars placed three starters indouble figures Wednesday night on their way to a 73-45 win over theBowling Green Buccaneers in the second round of the BrookhavenAcademy Holiday Invitational Tournament.

Powering the defending champion Cougars with 18 points was T-BoyLynch. Firing in 13 points was Alan Gray followed by Kurt Perkinswith 11 points.

In the other boys game, Marshall dumped Hillcrest Christian53-32.

Today’s boys action features Hillcrest vs. Bowling Green at 1p.m. in the loser’s bracket. The winner’s semifinals bracketincludes Marshall facing Parklane at 5 p.m. and Brookhaven squaringoff against Copiah at 7:40.

Championship finals and consolation games will be playedFriday.

Brookhaven 73, Bowling Green 45

Brookhaven (13-1) jumped on Bowling Green 19-8 in the firstquarter and pushed the lead to 40-17 at the half. A 22-6 scoringspree in the third quarter gave the Cougars a comfortable 62-23lead going into the final frame.

“I feel like we came out doing much better at what we have todo,” said Brookhaven Academy boys coach Dale Watts following thewin. “I thought we did what we had to do tonight. We have a goodteam.”

Davis and Winborne led Brookhaven on the backboards with 6rebounds apiece. Jerrod Rayborn grabbed 4 rebounds. Gray and Davisled with 3 steals apiece. Lynch had 5 assists followed by Perkinsand Rayborn with 3 each.

Derek Varnado was the leading scorer for Bowling Green with 8points.

Marshall 53, Hillcrest 32

Thomas Rodgers sacked a game-high 25 points to sparkMarshall.

Cory Lockhart and Mike Stigile scored 9 points apiece forHillcrest.
