Bank of Brookhaven wins Dixie Boys crown

It took two games for Bank of Brookhaven to put away SmithBrothers for the Dixie Boys Baseball League Championship Saturdaynight at Exchange Club Park’s Legion Field. The bankers also wonthe regular-season title.
Bank of Brookhaven rallied for 9, fourth-inning runs to knockoff regular-season runner-up Smith Brothers 18-8 in the second andfinal game to win the title. Smith Brothers had clipped previouslyunbeaten Bank of Brookhaven 11-9 in the first game and forced thesecond title contest.
In Friday action, Bank of Brookhaven stomped Regions Bank 19-5and Smith Brothers rolled over Linton Glass 11-4.
Bank of Brook 18, Smith Bro. 8
The game was tied 1-all after the first inning. Smith Brotherswent up 4-1 in the top of the third but Bank of Brookhaven cameback with 6 runs for a 7-4 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Smith Brothers posted 4 runs for an8-7 lead. Bank of Brookhaven put the game away with 9 runs in thebottom of the fourth for a 16-8 lead. The bankers added 2 more runsin the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Powering Bank of Brookhaven in the second title game with 3singles was Preston Shelton. Danny Ford doubled twice. BrettRushing doubled. Calvin Robinson, Justin Smallwood, Nick Britt andDehendret Collins hit safely.
Rushing was the winning pitcher with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.Adam Watson absorbed the loss with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks.
For Smith Brothers, Jonathan Crosby doubled. Singling were ClintScott, Cody Beeson and Tyler Case.
Smith Bro. 11, Bank of Brook 9
Smith Brothers jumped out on Bank of Brookhaven for a 7-1 leadin the first two innings. Smith Brothers led 10-3 after three and11-7 after six. T.J. Floyd fanned 6 batters and walked 2 on his wayto the win. Rushing took the loss with 4 strikeouts and 3walks.
Directing Smith Brothers to the win with a double and 2 singleswas Cody Smith. Clint Scott doubled. Singling were Jordan Vinson,Scott, Floyd and Watson.
Rushing singled 3 times for Bank of Brookhaven. Collins doubledtwice. Collecting a pair of singles each were Colton Laird andBritt. Smallwood and Shelton hit safely.

Friday night, Smith Brothers got a double and a single fromJonathon Crosby. Watson doubled. Floyd and Smith drilled 2 singlesapiece. Case hit safely. Floyd took the win with 2 strikeouts and 3walks.
For Linton Glass, Kyle Cross doubled and singled. Micah Mooresingled twice. Gib Britt, Gage Wilson and Tyler Strong singled.Britt was the losing hurler with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Bank of Brook 19, Regions Bank 5
Grabbing the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts and 8 walks wasRushing. Ryan Kennedy was the losing hurler with 5 strikeouts and 8walks.
Brett Rushing smashed an inside-the-park home run and a doublefor Bank of Brookhaven. Nick Britt tripled and singled. Laird andCollins singled.
