Search still on for 2 men wanted in assault, theft

Lawrence County officials are looking for two men in connectionwith an aggravated assault and vehicle theft that occurred onFriday.

Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames said a young woman hadcalled in to say that two black males had assaulted her.

“She said they came into her yard and slapped her around alittle and knocked her down,” he said. “They also took some moneyfrom her purse and some firearms that belonged to the husband.”

Thames said the two men then locked the woman in a shed outsideher home and took her car.

“Right now we’re trying to play on any leads we’ve got, and seeif we can find these men,” he said.

Thames said the men had covered their faces so the victim wasnot able to see who they were.

“They had hoods pulled over their faces, so she wouldn’trecognize them,” he said. “We feel like they knew of (the victim’sfamily), I also feel like it’s someone familiar with the area.”

Thames said the two men were last seen in a spruce green 1998Toyota Avalon bearing Lawrence County tag 489-LWD.

“We worked all yesterday and last night and got back on it firstthing this morning, and still trying to run things down,” Thamessaid Saturday evening.
