Brook kickers slip past Lawrence

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers defeated Lawrence County 3-1 Fridaynight on frigid King Field, winning their first Division 6-4Asoccer test of the season. Caitlyn Deal, Hannah Lowman and KatieHoover scored single goals for Ole Brook.

Providing an assist was Hoover. She also scored on a cornerkick.

Lawrence County’s goal came from Cassie Rawlings in the first halfof action.

BHS goalkeeper Laney Wall had 3 saves.

“We had a good game,” said BHS coach Kevin Bower. “We had a fewstarters out.” He said three of his starters, all cheerleaders,were attending a program at DisneyWorld in Orlando.

The Lady Panthers are 6-3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the division.LCHS is 1-3.

The Panthers (3-6-1) posted a 3-2 win over the Cougars in ashootout. Jake Errington and Chris Lowman scored for BHS. TrevorHavis scored twice for LCHS.

In the shootout, Aaron Davey, Matthew Hart and Errington scoredgoals. Payne McGowen made 2 saves in the shootout.

The rivals battled to a 1-1 deadlock in regulation. After the first10-minute overtime was scoreless, Lowman hit the net with 6 minutesleft on a 16-yard shot inside the box. Havis scored in the secondOT..

Stone Underwood was Brook’s goalie in the first half. McGowen wasthe goalie in the second half.

“Both teams played well,” said Coach Bower. “That’s one of theclosest games we have had with Lawrence County.”

The Panthers had taken a 1-0 halftime lead on a header byErrington.

Brookhaven resumes play Tuesday night at McComb. The junior varsitygirls play at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity girls at 6 and thevarsity boys at 7:30.
