Jerome Warren Freeman Sr.

Services for Jerome Warren Freeman Sr., of Indianapolis, Ind.,are 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Sylvarena Baptist Churchin Wesson with burial in the church cemetery. Brookhaven FuneralHome is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

Dr. Freeman, 80, died April 2, 2009, in Indianapolis. He wasborn in Indianapolis on July 3, 1928, to George Louis Freeman andIda Helen Freeman.

He was a teacher, administrator, professor and director of deafservices in eight different states for 48 years. He was director ofdeaf and hard of hearing services for the state of Indiana, withRelay Indiana and also with the Board of Standards forInterpreters. Dr. Freeman was a graduate from the Indiana Schoolfor the Deaf and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He held amaster’s degree in education from Mississippi College and amaster’s degree in administration from San Fernando StateUniversity. He also held a doctorate in curriculum andadministration from the University of Tennessee. He was a member ofPeace Lutheran Church for the Deaf. Dr. Freeman had lost hishearing at age 7 due to complications from spinal meningitis.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his two brothers,Russell and Ricky; and a sister, Mildred.

Survivors are his sons, Jerome W. Freeman Jr. and wife, Deborah,of Decatur, and Michael Louis Freeman and wife, Kelly, ofIndianapolis; and his four grandchildren, Jenny, Bob, Joe andSarah.

Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church for the Deaf inhonor of Dr. Freeman.

Willie D. Keys Sr.

Services for Willie D. Keys Sr., of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m.Thursday, April 9, at Macedonia M.B. Church in Brookhaven withburial in Mt. Zion M.B. Church Cemetery on Highway 550.

Visitation is Wednesday from 1 until 7 p.m. at Williams Mortuarywith family present from 6 until 7 p.m.

Mr. Keys, 68, died April 2, 2009, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter in Brookhaven. He was born in Lincoln County on May 30,1940, to Turley Keys and Louvenia Allen Keys.

He was retired. He was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, JohnHenry Keys, Robert Keys and Edward Keys; his sisters, AudreyEdwards, Lula Marie Stamps and Emma Jean Triggs.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Hooker Keys, of Brookhaven; hissons, Willie Keys Jr. and wife, Louvenia, of Richmond, Va.; hisdaughters, Madie Lavern Sanders, of Chicago, Ill., Helen Owens andhusband, Eddie, of Chesapeake, Va., and Debra Keys-Robinson andhusband, Cory, of Snellville, Ga.; a brother, Roger Keys, ofCaseyville; a sister, Flora Keys Foster, of Brookhaven; his eightgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.

Agnes Marie Jointer Smith

Services for Agnes Marie Jointer Smith, of Los Angeles, Calif.,are 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Pilgrim M.B. Church in LosAngeles with burial in Abbey Cemetery in Compton, Calif. Robert L.Adams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, 65, died March 31, 2009, at Bellflower MedicalCenter in Los Angeles. She was born in Wesson on Jan. 17, 1944, tothe Rev. Burgess Jointer and Jessie Lee Jones Jointer.

She was co-owner of Expression Hair Studio. She was a member ofPilgrim M.B. Church where she was a faithful and devoted member andwas a committed song leader in the Pilgrim Mass Choir.

Preceding her in death were her mother, a sister and her twochildren.

Survivors are her father, the Rev. Burgess Jointer, ofHazlehurst; her children, Marie Denise Smith and Albert CurtisSmith; her sisters, Mildred Sharlene Banks and husband, Fred,Janice Darlene Hall and husband, DeWayne, Linda Faye Jointer Young,of Wesson, Lillian A. Juanita Brewer Taylor

A private service for Juanita Brewer Taylor, of Georgetown, willbe held with Riverwood Family Funeral Service in charge inarrangements.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1923.

She was a homemaker and owner of Dixie Gas. She was of Baptistfaith. She loved politics and served on the George Wallace and JohnArthur Eaves campaigns.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her loving son,Charles William “Charlie Brown” Taylor II.

Survivors are a devoted and loving daughter, Linda Peoples andhusband, Joe, of Georgetown; a grandchild, Kelli Powell Sheffieldand husband, Tripp, of Woodbine, Ga.; her four great-grandchildren,Lauren Ashley, Hailey Brianne, Nolan Keith and Dylan Matthew Puzon;and a loving nephew, Joey Duncan and wife, Anita.
