Cobras bite Enterprise

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras broke a 2-all tie with 9 runs in thebottom of the fifth and took a tough 12-2 Division 6-2A win overthe Enterprise Yellow Jackets on a cold, windy Tuesday night. Thegame was called after six innings because of the 10-run mercyrule.

Wesson (9-5, 5-4) travels to Enterprise (8-10, 5-4) Thursdaynight for another big division test. The junior varsity game kicksoff at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

“We keep on plugging,” said Wesson head baseball coach HughKnight after the win. “We got our clutch hits tonight. We just hadone error. I hope we can keep it going.”

Enterprise took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second inningbut Wesson came back with a pair of runs for a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the third, the Jackets punched in a run to tie thegame at 2-all until the bottom of the fifth.

“I thought we made a couple of mental errors on offense,” saidEnterprise head coach Cass Brister. “Defensively, we played wellfor a couple of innings. Wesson just beat us.”

Caleb Broome (5-2) was the winning pitcher with 5 strikeouts, 1walk and 10 hits allowed. Absorbing the loss was Tanner Delcambrewho worked 5.1 innings with 8 strikeouts, 1 walk and 9 hitsallowed. Jonathan Burns took over and finished with 2 strikeouts, 2walks, 3 hit batters and 5 runs allowed.

Powering the Cobras at the plate with 3 singles was Broome. GibBritt doubled and singled. Kody Chrestman doubled and singled.Collecting a pair of singles each was Chris Fink and Matt P.Smith.

Delcambre powered the Jackets with 2 doubles and a single.Ripping 2 singles was Trent Herrington. Garrett Greer singledtwice.

Enterprise rallied to beat Wesson 7-6 in the JV game.
