Three hurt in morning bus mishap

Three people were transported to area hospitals after a seriesof vehicles – including a school bus – piled up on Highway 84Thursday morning, authorities said.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Public Affairs Officer Sgt.Rusty Boyd said the accidents began just before 7:20 a.m. Thursdaymorning when the school bus had stopped in the heavy fog to allow achild to board. The accident occurred on Highway 84 at WaterfrontLane in Franklin County.

“The fog was bad thick this morning,” he said. “A bus had stoppedto pick up kids, and a car rear-ended the bus as it was sittingthere.”

Over the next few minutes, six more vehicles either hit the firstaccident or ran off the road to avoid hitting the other vehicles,Boyd said.

“There were 10 people involved, plus the bus driver, and we don’tyet know how many kids were on the bus,” Boyd said around 10 a.m.Thursday.

Boyd said there were three injured, and two were transported toFranklin County Hospital by ambulance. The other was transported toKing’s Daughters Medical Center by ambulance.

No names were released as highway patrol units were still workingthe accident mid-morning on Thursday, but he said more informationwould be released as it is available.
