Two killed during area auto mishaps

A Lincoln County man was killed in a one-vehicle accident earlySunday morning and a Roxie pedestrian died in a Monday morningaccident in Franklin County, authorities said.

Bradley Britt, 41, of 3611 Allred Drive, died in the accident thathappened around 12:29 a.m. Sunday about one mile north of Highway550 on Caseyville Road. He was driving a 2004 Hummer.

“He ran off the road and hit a tree,” said Sheriff SteveRushing.

Coroner Clay McMorris said Britt was ejected from the vehicle.Britt was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:25 a.m., the coronersaid.

Rushing said there was no one else in the vehicle.

Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of Britt’sarrangements. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at thefuneral home chapel, with burial in Old Sweetwater Cemetery inCaseyville

In the Monday incident, Carl E. Jackson, 73, of 1887 Highway 33,Roxie, was killed when he was struck by a northbound 2003 FordFocus, driven by Lindsey R. Bonnette, 17, of 84 Birch Lane, Crosby,said Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer RustyBoyd.

Jackson was hit as he was crossing the road around 7:29 a.m.Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin CountyCoroner Percy Peeler.

Neither Bonnette nor her passenger, Jennifer L. Greer, 17, also ofCrosby, was injured in the incident, Boyd said.
