Eutha H. Davis, 89, of Monticello, diedFriday, Sept. 16, 2011, at his residence in Monticello.

    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011,at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello with burial in theMonticello Municipal Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello isin charge of arrangements.

    Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 until 9 p.m. at thechurch.

    He was born April 24, 1922, in Lawrence County to Bro. W. Archieand Myrtle Russell Davis. He was founder of Davis Jewelers in 1947and had worked there for 64 years. He was a World War II veteran,where he served in the Air Force. He served on the Board ofAldermen for the Town of Monticello for 44 years. He served asselective service chairman, member of the Monticello Masonic Lodgeand charter member of Mississippi Jewelers Association. He was alsoa Boy Scout leader, the chairman of the Monticello MerchantsAssociation and police commissioner for 12 years.

    In addition, he was the leader in PTA of Monticello schools, thefirst jeweler in Monticello, a past deacon of Monticello BaptistChurch, a member of the Monticello Lions Club and the club’s pastpresident.

    Mr. Eutha loved his family, church and friends. He loved to ridearound town and see any progress made or a new business opening. Helived for his family, and always put other people first. He lovedyoung people and always said “You have to give young people achance.”

    He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Martha AnnHales Davis and Mary Margaret Benton Davis; his daughter-in-law,Sue Davis; his sister, Pearl Davis Butler; and his brothers,Emmitt, Atley, Russell, Charles Ottie, Claude and CrawfordDavis.

    Survivors include his son, Jackie E. Davis, of Monticello; hisdaughter, Mary Ann and Greg Martin, of Monticello; his grandsons,John Mark Davis, Nathanael Davis and Travis Tyrone; and hisgreat-granddaughter, Morgann Elizabeth Davis.

      In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to the Gideons.
