Wesson blanks Bassfield

WESSON – The Wesson Cobras swept the Bassfield Yellowjackets Thursday night with 10-0 shut out in Region 7-2A baseball action.

Wesson resumes action Tuesday. They host their region rival the Enterprise Yellow Jackets for a huge district test. Junior varsity action kicks off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

Senior Alex Smith provided a solid pitching performance for the Cobras to collected the win on the mound with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Quentin Munn led Wesson’s offensive hitting clinic with a double and a single. Brandon Nettles continued the onslaught with two singles. Jase Alexander ripped a triple. Cullen Greer and Austin Crow hit safely.

“Alex Smith did a excellent job on the mound for us,” said Wesson coach Seth Lofton. “I was pleased with the guys efforts. We hit the ball hard and great defense.”

Bassfield used a two-man pitcher rotation in the loss. Brandon Mancuao (0K, 4BB) was credited with loss as the starting pitcher. Gary Loftin (0K, 4BB) saw some action in relief.

Kevin Hawthorne recorded the only hit for Bassfield’s offense with a single.

In JV action, Wesson defeated Bassfield 8-0.

Tyler McLeod, Justin Boone and Connor Lowery directed the Cobras’ offense with a triple and a single apiece. Max Daughdrill had a double.
