John Edwin “Smitty” Smith

Funeral services for John Edwin “Smitty” Smith of Summit are 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, with burial in Johnston Station Cemetery. The Rev. Riley Hinton and the Rev. David Boyd will officiate.

Visitation is Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith, 69, died April 2, 2013 at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia. He was born in Natchez on Aug. 30, 1943 to Neal and Pauline Brown Smith.

He was a retired oil field worker, having worked for various companies throughout the states most of his adult life; but he was best known for his mechanical abilities. He also enjoyed buying and selling livestock and could often be found at the local sale barn. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Air Force veteran and of the Baptist faith.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Jeffrey Neal Smith; one stepdaughter, Laura Michelle Douglas; one nephew, Benjamin Scott Williams; and one niece, Amanda Smith.

Survivors are his daughter, Kimberly Sue Boyd and husband, Eric; son, John LouGuerry Smith and fiancée, Stacey; stepdaughter, Debra E. Brumbeloe; stepson, Wayne Lamar Brumbeloe and fiancée, Paula; special friend and companion, Renee’ Smith; six grandchildren, Gavin Ray Davis, Khloe Cire’ Boyd, Daniel Keith Smith, Travis LouGuerry Smith, Justin Neal Smith and Taylor Brooke Smith; four step-grandchildren, Jeremy Douglas, Jimmy Douglas, Courtney Douglas Barron and Kara Brumbeloe; two great-grandchildren, Brennan Smith and Tratin Neal Smith; three brothers, Neal Gray Smith, Gordon Gerald Smith and Paul Daniel Smith and wife, Myrtis; two sisters, Sara Giacone and Paulette George; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
