Funeral services for Bessie Marie May Evans of Brookhaven are 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 at Grateful Ministries International, with burial in Springfield M.B. Church Cemetery in Bogue Chitto. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with family hour from 6 until 7.

Mrs. Evans, 66, died May 18, 2013 at Post Acute Specialty Hospital in Hammond, La. She was born in Lincoln County on June 18, 1946 to Sammie L. May and Lillie Tolliver May.

She worked in medical records at Tulane Medical Center. She was a member of Grateful Ministries International.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, James May and Richard May; sister, Elise May; and aunt, Ruby May.

Survivors are her husband, Willie Evans Sr.; three children, Melissa Brent McCarthy (Lester), of Atlanta, Sharon May Gonsoulin (Mark), of New Orleans, and Sammie Louis May (Erika), of Violet, La.; stepchildren, Willie Evans Jr., of Natchez, and Keliah Mayer, of Bogalusa, La.; siblings, Doris May, of New Orleans, Charlesten May (Billy), of New Orleans, T.L. May (Rosalind), of New Orleans, Stella May, of New Orleans, Effie Poole (Joe), of Brookhaven, Elizabeth Fortenberry, of Arkansas, and Harold May, of Louisville, Ky.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
