Amite County stomps Hornets

LIBERTY – The Amite County Trojans used their speed and athletic ability to stomp the Loyd Star Hornets 32-13 Friday night in Region 7-2A action.
Junior running back Brent Calcote managed to help the Hornets get on the scoreboard in the first quarter, when he broke loose and sprinted 48 yards to paydirt with 7:23 remaining. Seth Farmer finished the night with one-of-two extra point kicks.
In the second quarter, Farmer hooked up with Calcote for a six-yard touchdown with 1:55 left and the Hornets trailed at the half 14-13.
In the second half, Amite County came out on fire and steamrolled the Hornets with an 18-0 run for the win.
Farmer was the offensive leader for Loyd Star, completing seven-of-16 passes for 82 yards.
Junior running back Peyton Flowers paced the Hornet rushing attack with 14 carries for 75 yards. Calcote contributed 57 yards rushing on six carries,
La’Treall Smith was the top receiver with three catches for 38 yards. Zac Arnold had one reception for 23 yards.
Defensively, Flowers directed the Hornets with eight solo tackles and four assists. Dustin Hart provided eight solo stops and three assists. Calcote intercepted a pass.
Loyd Star (1-5, 0-1) visits Columbia for more Region 7-2A action Friday as the Hornets battle the East Marion Eagles. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
