King’s Daughters Medical Center has added yet another award to its impressive series of recognitions. The hospital’s latest honor is the Healthgrades 2014 Outstanding Patient Experience Award(tm).
“It is very gratifying to know that our quality commitment has been recognized over and again by numerous outside rating agencies,” said KDMC CEO Alvin Hoover. “We truly believe that healing is more than dressing a wound or providing the right medicine at the right time. Healing for us is, and has always been, about being welcomed with a smile; seeing you as a person not just a patient; and treating everyone – and I mean everyone – as God’s special creation that deserves our very best and our prayers.”
King’s Daughters was identified as providing outstanding performance in the delivery of positive experiences for patients during their hospital stay, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
To be eligible for the Healthgrades 2014 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, Healthgrades evaluated 3,582 hospitals that submitted patient surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, covering admissions from March 2012 – April 2013.
Of these hospitals, 3,000 hospitals met additional clinical quality requirements to be considered for this Healthgrades distinction. The top 15 percent of this group, or 447 hospitals, achieved the award. King’s Daughters Medical Center is in the top 15 percent in the nation.
Healthgrades evaluated King’s Daughters performance as assessed by the hospital’s patients across 27 different questions that roll up to ten distinct measures. Ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in a patient room to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patient’s needs, the measures also include whether a patient would recommend this hospital to friends or family.
“As consumers are becoming more active participants in their healthcare, measured performance surrounding the patient experience at a hospital is an increasingly important consideration for patients in choosing where to receive their care,” said Evan Marks, EVP Informatics and Strategy.
“Consumers can rest assured that those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Patient Experience Award demonstrate a commitment to exceptional focus on the needs of the patient during their stay at the hospital.”
King’s Daughters Medical Center’s mission is to provide quality health and wellness in a Christian environment. KDMC is a non-profit hospital, which means dollars are reinvested in the community. The hospital reinvests by continuing to grow to meet the community’s health care needs: upgrading facilities, staying on top of technology by purchasing innovative equipment and providing quality medical professionals.
