Two local officials are coming together to make sure children go to school with a backpack.

District 1 Supervisor Rev. Jerry Wilson and Ward 3 Alderman Mary Wilson will be distributing backpacks on the steps of the courthouse Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. The backpacks are meant for any students from kindergarten to 12th grade.

The couple said children must be accompanied by a parent, but they encourage everyone who needs a back pack to come out.

“We just want to be a blessing to our community,” he said. “We’re just helping people and that’s what it’s all about.”

The Wilsons hope to ensure that all students will be able to return to school with a quality backpack.
