In search of a family friendly pet to bring home? Look no further. The Brookhaven Animal Rescue League will have a plethora of adoptable pets at its annual Barkfest fundraiser Saturday, including Krumpus.

Krumpus is a one and a half year old male Cur, Shar Pei mix looking for his forever home. He weighs approximately 60 pounds, is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations and is neutered.

“Krumpus is the sweetest, most intelligent dog,” BARL Director Lu Becker said. “It has been difficult to get him adopted because it is hard for him to trust just anybody. He has been with us since July of last year. He wants to do what you want him to. There is no telling what happened to him before he came to us.”

Becker said Krumpus has a tendency to appear shy but in reality is scared to trust.

“There is someone special out there just for him,” Becker said. “He is looking for someone he can trust. He would make a good guard dog. He looks bad, but he is actually sweet.”

BARL volunteers have been working with Krumpus on a daily basis to prepare him for his forever home.

“We have worked on sitting, loading and leading with Krumpus, and he is doing well,” Becker said. “We are willing to work with any adopter to teach them how to train Krumpus.”

Krumpus will be available for adoption at Barkfest all day Saturday. The event will be at the Mississippi School of the Arts campus and will feature a 5K run, live music, food, a children’s play area and a dog show. The festivities will kick off with the 5K color run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

This year’s Barkfest theme is “Believe in Second Chances” because shelter animals are not broken but instead just need a second chance at life.

Barkfest was an idea created by the students of the Mississippi School of the Arts Bark Club. The idea behind the event was to celebrate rescue pets and their families while raising awareness and funds for BARL.
