District 5 Supervisor Doug Falvey presented the Lincoln County School Board with a proposed lease contract that would allow the his district’s county barn to be on Loyd Star school property.
On April 4, Falvey approached the board with the concern that District 5 did not have a written contract to be on the property.
Lincoln County 16th Section land manager Stan Long presented to the board at the April 14 meeting a discussion of agreement between the Board of Supervisors and the Lincoln County School District that was approved in February 1999.
“The agreement that was found, according to Ryan (Holmes, county engineer) and Doug, does not cover all of their needs,” Long said at the April 14 meeting.
Falvey requested a new agreement because he wants to add on to the facility.
“According to what Bob told me, the Loyd Star school owns four acres and 12 acres, and the county barn is on the four acres,” Falvey said at the April 4 meeting. “I’ve got the existing building and what I am proposing is to add on some office space and add a fence. We’ve had a couple of burglaries out there in the last month, and we need to do a little security work. I didn’t want to do anything without some kind of signed agreement or proposal.”
Falvey provided the board with copies of a property survey, outlining the land he would like to lease.
“It’s two acres that kind of squares it up,” Falvey said. “The old part that we had is kind of in the fence line. Stan says he can’t find where any money has been collected and if we need to pay for the past rent, we’ll do that. We’ll cut you a check for that if that’s what y’all want.
“By doing this, that will allow me to get everything off of the property around the old Progress building and get it inside the fence and out of everybody’s way. “
The existing contract, signed in 1999, stated District 5 would pay the school board $10 a year to be located on its property. Falvey’s new contract outlines the same amount.
Along with considering the new agreement, Falvey requested that the board allow the county ample time to purchase the land if it ever decides to sell it.
The board tabled approving the new contract until the next meeting in order to allow the attorney time to review it.
In other business, the board:
• Approved a request to add a 3 percent supplement for the Bogue Chitto and Enterprise dance teachers.
• Approved the purchase of four buses from Thomas Built Buses for the 2016-2017 school year.
• Approved Orkin Pest & Termite Control’s bid to handle its pest control needs.
• Approved a 225-work day schedule for West Lincoln, Bogue Chitto and Loyd Star.
