Braves claim game three over Barons

PEARL — The Mississippi Braves and Birmingham Barons seesawed through six frames before Dansby Swanson and Dustin Peterson plated the decisive seventh-inning runs to send the Braves to a 6-4 victory Thursday night at Trustmark Park.

Knotted at 4-4, Stephen Gaylor reached on an error to start the Braves’ seventh. He swiped second before Dansby Swanson’s RBI-single to left. Dustin Peterson followed with a RBI-double to left, putting the M-Braves out front 6-4.

Mississippi (53-49, 19-14) scored six runs on 11 hits. Birmingham (43-60, 14-19) scored four runs on nine hits. For the Braves, Connor Lien, Peterson and Levi Hyams all put together two-hit nights at the plate.

The scoring started early with the M-Braves taking a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a two-run home run off the bat of Lien.

Birmingham responded in the second. Brady Shoemaker and Alfredo Gonzalez singled to start the inning. Chris O’Dowd walked to load the bases before Hunter Jones walked to plate a run.
Mississippi made it 3-1 in the bottom of the frame when Hyams singled and scored on a Johan Camargo base hit to right field.

In the third, Shoemaker walked and took second on a wild pitch. He then came around to score on a Gonzalez single to left field.
Hyams doubled and scored on a Joseph Odom base hit in the fourth to extend the Braves lead to 4-2.

Trey Michalczewski homered to center field in the fifth, cutting the Braves lead to 4-3. The Barons then tied the game in the sixth with a RBI-single from Eddy Alvarez. Mississippi then responded in the seventh to ultimately secure the win.
Manny Banuelos went five frames for the M-Braves, giving up three earned runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out six but did not factor in the decision. Evan Phillips (3-1) worked two innings in relief to pick up the win. Madison Younginer (S, 14) came on to record the final three outs and notch the save.
