The final week of Region 7-2A play begins tonight as the teams move towards the region tournament next week at Amite County.
Lady Bears are 6-0 in division play
The West Lincoln Lady Bears are defending region champs and have been perfect in division play so far this season. Tonight, West Lincoln travels to Hornetville to take on Loyd Star. West Lincoln is coming off of a 70-14 win over Enterprise.
This is the third matchup between the Lady Hornets (12-11, 3-3) and Lady Bears (19-4, 6-0) as West Lincoln won 61-37 at the county tournament and 62-39 on Jan. 18 at home.
The Lady Hornets led West Lincoln after the first quarter the last time the two teams played. Keeping the score low and the pace slow will be a key if Loyd Star is to spring the upset.
That’s the game plan Bogue Chitto (17-7, 5-1) used the last time they played West Lincoln. The Lady Bobcats sit at 5-1 and are currently in second place in the region. The 42-38 win that West Lincoln took over Bogue Chitto on Jan. 22 is the closest anyone in the division has come to knocking off the Lady Bears this season.
Bogue Chitto travels to Enterprise (6-15, 1-6) tonight before hosting West Lincoln on Friday in a matchup that will determine who takes the top seed in the region tournament.
Loyd Star ends the regular season by hosting Amite County Friday. Enterprise finishes their regular season tonight with their matchup against Bogue Chitto. The Lady Jackets will face Amite County in the opening round of the region tournament as the teams will be seeded fourth and fifth. They split their regular season matchups with each team winning on their home court.
Hornets can wrap up top seed with a win tonight
Loyd Star can win the division on the boys’ side of the region tonight with a win over West Lincoln. In their last meeting Loyd Star (16-8, 6-0) took a close 62-59 win over the Bears (13-10, 4-2) in Jack Case Gymnasium.
West Lincoln and Amite County both have 4-2 records in the region. Loyd Star closes their regular season Friday by hosting Amite County.
Enterprise (4-17, 0-7) closes their regular season tonight as they host Bogue Chitto (5-18, 1-4). The Bobcats won the first matchup between the teams 56-45 Jan. 18. Regardless of the outcome tonight the two teams will meet up again in the opening round of the region tournament Feb. 11 at Amite County.
Bogue Chitto hosts West Lincoln Friday.
