Brookhaven High alum and current William Carey Crusader Haley Nations was recently named Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Freshman of the Year. A pitcher for WCU, Nations was also picked first team all-conference. The daughter of Joel and Neely Nations, she currently has a 14-6 record with a 1.61 ERA. Nations has struck out 120 batters in 126.1 innings of work. William Carey is currently ranked as the No. 14 NAIA team in the nation, but the Lady Crusaders were unexpectedly bounced from the conference tournament this week after going 0-2. WCU will next play beginning May 13 in the NAIA National Championship Tournament on their home field.
