Offense was in no short supply Friday night on R.M. “Red” Stuard Field as the Columbia Academy Cougars (1-2) held on for a wild 44-42 win over Brookhaven Academy (2-1).

CA led 8-7 after the first quarter and then the track meet took off as the schools combined to score 42 points in the 12 minutes of second quarter action.

Columbia went up 8-0 on a 66-yard scoring pass in the first minute of the game. BA would never lead as they cut the lead to one-point once, two-points three times, and three-points twice.

Sophomore quarterback Tyler Fortenberry finished 24-of-43 for 361 yards and three touchdowns to lead Brookhaven Academy. His cousin Dylan Fortenberry caught 12 passes for 201 yards.

A 4-yard scoring pass from Fortenberry to Collin Waldrop pulled BA to within two with five minutes remaining in the game, but the Cougars in blue and white could get no closer.

BA travels to play at Centreville next week.
