The Wesson Cobras (1-3) broke into the win column in a sweet way Friday night with a 29-6 homecoming win over the Franklin County Bulldogs (0-4).

Last week against Mize the Cobras had success passing the ball with freshman quarterback Will Loy under center. That trend continued Friday as Loy hooked up with Anterio Miller on a 47-yard pass and catch that put them up 7-0 with 9:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Antrelle Sims picked off a Bulldog pass to put Wesson in great field possession at the FC 35-yard line. Sims and senior Damien Smith moved the ball on alternating rushes and an Orlando Smith carry for 19-yards put the Cobras up 13-0.

Coach B.J. Smithhart would see his Franklin County team get on the board in the second quarter as Wesson led 13-6 at the break.

With 5:36 remaining in the third quarter Orlando Smith scored on a 1-yard run to put the home team ahead 20-6. A 20-yard pass from Loy to Sims that ended at the 1-yard line set up the Orlando Smith score.

Sims added to the Cobra scoring with a 73-yard TD run late in the game.

Preston Lee also kicked a 20-yard field goal for Wesson.

Wesson stays in Copiah County next week as they make the short trip to play Hazlehurst.
