Bogue Chitto, Lawrence County both pick up region wins

With the regular season ending next week, both Bogue Chitto and Lawrence County picked up key region wins Tuesday night.

Bogue Chitto

The Lady Bobcats (13-5) have one more big region game left as they travel to Wesson on Monday. They’ll also play at North Pike tonight and host North Pike on Tuesday.

On Tuesday the Lady Bobcats pounded Franklin County 11-4 in Meadville. Coach Kris Smith and his team had 18 hits in the game as the BC defense gave up just four runs despite Franklin County getting 11 total hits.

Shyann Jackson homered for the Lady Bobcats while Juliannna Frazier and Codi Leggett hit a double apiece. Julie Anna Bartram drove in a team high four RBIs.

Kayci Beth Wallace, Ali Anne Long, Kylie Chapman, Gracie Guynes, Kaitlin Poole and Lysney Cooper all also hit safely for the Lady Cats.

BC is unbeaten in Class I-Region 7 play. Division members include Bogue Chitto, Wesson, Crystal Springs, and Franklin County. The playoffs begin Oct. 5 and all four teams from the region will make the postseason.

The game against Wesson on Monday will decide who is region champ. BC took a 5-2 win over Wesson on Aug. 20 when the teams first met.

Lawrence County

Coach Marc Howard and his Lady Cougars (13-4) sewed up the division championship with an 11-8 win at home against North Pike Tuesday night.

LC will finish up the regular season with a game at Florence on Monday and by hosting Northwest Rankin on Tuesday.

Tuesday night North Pike outhit the Lady Cougars 19-14, but Lawrence County used a seven run fourth inning to break open what had been a 4-4 game in the bottom of the fourth.

Senior Sydney Pevey continued to smash the ball as she hit a double and a home run. Her sister Abbey also hit a homerun as did Skyler Speights. Speights finished with three RBIs and Sydney Pevey had a team high four RBIs while getting four hits.

Jordyn Bridges, Abenie Fuller, Raylee Ready, Ashley Holden, Ana Kat Case, Molly Davis and Abbey Turnage all hit safely for the Lady Cougars.
