Ethel knocks Wesson out in game 3

Wesson had to travel a good distance to take on their opponent for the second round of the MHSAA slow-Pitch playoffs as they traveled to Ethel High School in Attalla County.

It took all seven innings of game three for the Ethel Lady Tigers to put away the Wesson Lady Cobras and capture the series, but that’s ultimately what happened as EHS took a 5-3 win in the deciding third game.

In game one Ethel led early and never looked back as they took a 3-0 win in the opener.

Facing elimination in game two, the Lady Cobras bounced back for a 9-3 win.  Kayla McElveen launched a pair of two-run home runs to give the Lady Cobras an offensive spark in the win.

In game three Ethel was the first on the scoreboard in the second inning as they scored off some costly errors in the outfield by Wesson to go up 2-0.

Wesson finally got on the board in the fourth as Natalie Bonds singled and scored on an RBI single by Laynee Crapps and after four innings it was 2-1.

In the fifth outfield miscues would hurt the Lady Cobras again as Ethel pushed across three more runs off just one hit. Two Wesson errors aided the Lady Tiger cause as Ethel went up 5-1.

Wesson tried to answer back in the sixth as they plated two runs when Shelbi Maxwell led the inning off with a walk and Anna Claire Crow followed her with a single. The Lady Cobras managed to get Maxwell and Crow across the plate on a sacrifice fly by McElveen and a throwing error by the Lady Tigers making the score 5-3, but that was as close as Wesson could get.

WAC had a runner on and the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning but just couldn’t manage to get them in. Ethel moves on to face Lake in the next round of the playoffs.
