Area MVP Cooper inks with Gulf Coast Community College football

Surrounded by family, friends and coaches, Lawrence County senior running back Kylan Cooper signed his letter-of-intent last week with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Player this season — Cooper rushed for 2,234 yards as a senior which was fight highest in the state. As a junior Cooper was All-Area Most Valuable Offensive Player after rushing for 1,242 yards and 13 scores for coach Jesse Anderson. As a senior Cooper scored 26 times for a 9-6 Lawrence County team that made it to the MHSAA 4A south state title game. The 5-foot-9, 175 pound Cooper will join another former LC Cougar in Perkinston as Oliver Moreman will be a sophomore fullback next season for the Bulldogs. Last season Gulf Coast finished 12-0 and won the NJCAA National Champinoship. The Bulldogs also signed Hazlehurst defensive back JaQuan Copeland in their 2020 class.
