Ole Brook takes out Laurel in championship

The third seeded Brookhaven High Panthers (12-16) took out top seeded Laurel High (16-11) 47-45 in the championship game of the Region 5-5A Tournament Friday at South Jones.

Laurel had won the two regular season matchups between the teams, but both games were close. BHS got a team-high 18 points from junior point guard La’Darius Thrasher in the win.

Thrasher scored 35 in a semi final win over West Jones earlier in the week. Senior guard Johntavious Wilkerson added 14 points for BHS and coach Marcus Flippin. Thrasher, Wilkerson and senior Jermario Hersey were named to the All-Region team. Saturday at 6 p.m.

BHS will host a playoff game in Sinclair Gymnasium. They’ll play the winner of tonight’s game between Natchez (14-11) and Pascagoula (16-12).
