Senior spotlight: Bartram, Leggett leaving legacy with Bogue Chitto softball

The 2020 senior class for Bogue Chitto softball isn’t the biggest in the county — there are only two seniors on the roster in catcher Julie Anna Bartram and pitcher Codi Leggett — but the quality of those two players can’t be overstated.
Bartram also played at Brookhaven Academy during her career and last season she was third on the team with 26 runs driven in for coach Kris Smith and a BC squad that made the third round of the MHSAA 2A playoffs.
Leggett leaves Bogue Chitto as a champion. As a freshman she was the winning pitcher in a 6-2 win over Hamilton that gave the Lady Bobcats the 2017 MHSAA 1A state title.
Last season, Leggett won her 50th career varsity game as a pitcher and was named The Daily Leader All-Area Most Valuable Defensive Player.
The end of the season will also be the end of a decorated softball career for Leggett. She had offers to play collegiately but is instead focusing on academics from here on out. Diagnosed with diabetes in elementary school, Leggett has worn an insulin pump to control her blood sugar as a high school student-athlete.
“These are two quality kids,” said Bogue Chitto head coach Kris Smith. “I hate how the season ended. We had played some bigger schools early in the season and it felt like things were just beginning to get rolling for us when it was canceled.”
Julie Anna Bartram
The daughter of Dewayne and Becky Bass, Julie Anna will soon begin classes at AVEDA Institute in Hammond as she studies to become an esthetician. A versatile and athletic part of the team, Bartram moved to catcher as a senior after playing in the outfield as a junior. She was also an infielder during the slow-pitch season.
Codi Leggett
The daughter of Kevin Leggett, Codi plans to attend community college, Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center for physical therapy.
A powerful bat in the heart of the lineup and a fierce pitcher in the circle, Leggett was also valedictorian of her senior class.
