A one-vehicle accident on Topisaw Drive claimed the life of a Lincoln County resident Saturday morning.

Emergency personnel including East Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and King’s Daughters Medical Center Ambulance Service responded to the scene near Wellman Drive at approximately 10:20 a.m., where a 2018 Buick LaCrosse had left the roadway and collided with a tree before catching fire.

One occupant was in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved, according to the LCSO report.

Deputy Coroner Ricky Alford said a body was recovered from the wreck and transported Saturday afternoon to the state medical examiner’s office. Official positive identification of the victim may not be available until after the weekend, Alford said, pending the M.E.’s report and family notification.
