The MHSAA 2A first round game scheduled for Monday between visiting Newton and host Loyd Star officially went down as a forfeit loss for the Lady Hornets due to a COVID-19 related quarantine.
“I hate it for our girls that the season ended this way,” said Loyd Star coach Seth Britt.
Loyd Star finished as Region 7-2A runners-up in the regular season and division tournament. Their final record including the forfeit loss was 13-7.
Both No. 3 seeded Wesson and No. 4 seeded Bogue Chitto lost close road games Monday night in their playoff matchups.
Wesson dropped a 44-34 defeat at Philadelphia High. Coach Michelle Nunnery’s Lady Cobra team finishes the year at 8-10 and will move back up to the 3A classification starting next season.
Bogue Chitto came close to knocking off a Union team that finished as region tournament champs and boats a 23-6 record. Union held BC off though to take a 46-43 win on their home court Monday.
Head coach Robby Walters and his Lady Bobcats end the season with a 14-9 record.
