The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2618 and the veterans of American Legion Post 12 will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the Lincoln County Veterans Memorial.

The memorial, located at the front of the Lincoln County/Brookhaven Government Complex, lists the names of Lincoln Countians who gave their lives in military service to their country in times of conflict.

Concerns linger over COVID and other issues, especially with the area’s oldest veterans near or past the centenarian mark, but VFW Post Commander Greg Marlow said not having a ceremony was out of the question.

“It could have been easy to just say we’re going to postpone or cancel,” Marlow said, “but those 98 names on the memorial at the courthouse deserve a lot more than that. They sacrificed everything.”
