Dangers still exist post-Ida

Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Chris Reid warns residents to stay alert and cautious as debris and downed power lines remain potential hazards in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

Since early Monday, crews from power companies, Lincoln County, the City of Brookhaven and other entities have been working to clear debris from roadways and homes, remove downed lines from areas where they can pose hazards, and restore power to customers.

“There are still roads with debris and downed power lines,” Reid said Tuesday morning. “Crews are already out this morning working. But there’s still debris on the side of roads, too. Travel carefully if you’re out and about.”

Reid said the debris and power outages were the majority of the impact of Ida on the area, though some residences in the county had serious damage.

“There are some houses with trees on them,” Reid said. “Not a lot — but one is too many.”

Reid will be performing damage assessments today throughout the county.
