City, county schools still on hybrid schedule

The Brookhaven School District and Lincoln County School District remain on hybrid learning schedules this week. The changes took effect as a precaution due to COVID-19 safety concerns.

 

City schools

All schools in the Brookhaven School District will follow an A/B schedule through Friday, Jan. 21. Thursday is for group A, as was Tuesday, students with last names beginning with A-K. Wednesday and Friday are for group B, students with last names beginning with L-Z.

For the week of Jan. 24-28, the schedule will change, and will be for the Lipsey Middle, Alexander Jr. High, Brookhaven High, Technical Center and Fannie Mullins Alternative campuses only.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be A days. Tuesday and Thursday will be B days.

“Please understand that when having to make such decisions, the Brookhaven School District will make the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community our number one priority,” Superintendent Rod Henderson said. “We know that the best and most effective learning takes place in the classroom, but our current circumstances make that difficult at this time. Thank you for your continued support. By working together, we will get through this challenging time.”

The entire district remains under a universal mask mandate. All teachers, staff and students must wear masks covering the nose and mouth when indoors or on school buses. All visitors to campuses, school settings and district offices must were masks covering the nose and mouth, regardless of vaccination status.

 

County schools

Lincoln County schools remain on a hybrid schedule, as well.

West Lincoln Attendance Center seventh through 12th grade students will continue on an A/B schedule through Friday, Jan. 21. Wednesday and Friday are A days, for students whose last names begin with A-L. Thursday is a B day, for students whose last names begin with M-Z.

Girls basketball and soccer teams will attend on A days. Boys basketball and soccer teams will attend on B days.

Loyd Star Attendance Center students in kindergarten through 12th grade through Friday, Jan. 21, as well. Wednesday and Friday will be for students whose last names begin with A-L. Thursday is for students whose last names begin with M-Z.

Loyd Star students adjusted due to sports remain on their adjusted days.

All students are expected to return to their regular schedules on Monday, Jan. 24.

“We appreciate your patience and support as we continue to navigate these circumstances,” Superintendent David Martin said.
