Rain was falling heavily Tuesday afternoon as a tornado watch persisted.

Rain gauges showed 1.4 inches of rain so far at the Lincoln County Emergency Management Office as of about 1:30 p.m.

Tornado watches are issued by the Storm Protection Center for areas where tornados may occur. People in the affected areas should “watch” for worsening weather conditions.

A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar and anyone in the area should take action.
