Alex Brown, Brookhaven Academy
Brookhaven Academy has never had a coach strictly dedicated to coaching the game of soccer until the school hired Alex Brown last year.
A former head coach at Parklane Academy and Southwest Mississippi Community College, Brown had a season to remember in his first campaign with the BA boys’ team.
The Cougars won 13 games in a row to start the season, were co-district champs with Copiah Academy and won the first playoff game in school history before finishing 18-2.
For his efforts, Brown has been named The Daily Leader All-Area Coach of the Year for boys’ soccer.
It wasn’t just with the boys’ team where Brown made his mark though as his first BA girls’ team went 13-5-1 and won their district as well.
A Spanish teacher at the school, Brown is fully immersed in the game of soccer. He works as a referee when not coaching at the school and coaches a select-team in the Spring.
If you watched either of his teams play this season you saw groups that were technically strong with each individual in a role that used their strengths to make the team better as a whole.
Seniors on the team were Cole Schwede, Joseph Blalock, Sam Smith, Corey Case, Logan Alexander, John Rivers Brown, Yosvin Hernandez and Peyton Reid. Juniors playing for BA included William Phillips, Parker Moak, Enrique Hernandez and Tyler Shann.
The sophomores on the team were Jaden Lea, Andrew Estes, Levi Dale, William Johnson, Matt Newman and Trace Stewart. Members of the freshman class included Yojan Hernandez, Parker Miller, Daksh Panchal and Jud Callender.
With interest and support for the game of soccer building at Brookhaven Academy, Brown has set a firm foundation and high expectations with the success experienced by his teams in 2021-2022.
