The No. 3 ranked Copiah-Lincoln softball team will be back in Wesson on Saturday hosting Northwest for a MACCC doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
Coach Meleah Howard’s team is 34-6 overall and 20-4 in MACCC play but is coming in with the first losing streak of the season after dropping two games on Wednesday at Jones College.
The No. 5 ranked team from Jones won the opener on Wed. by a 6-3 margin. Co-Lin trailed by three runs early but cut that lead to 4-3 after five and a half innings. Jones came back to score twice more in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
Wesson product Shelbi Maxwell went 3-of-4 at the plate to lead Co-Lin in the opener. Sophomore Madi Miller, a Brookhaven High graduate, and sophomore Madalyn Wilkinson (Germantown HS) were the only two other CLCC players to get a hit in the game as they had two each.
Game two went to extra innings and finished with a walk-off home run by Jones to give them a 6-5 victory.
Maxwell also drove in one run in game two for CLCC.
Co-Lin closes the season with two games against Northwest (27-9) on Saturday and two games at home against Gulf Coast on Tuesday. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 3 p.m.
