City schools in ‘great shape’ with personnel

Brookhaven Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rod Henderson said the district is “in great shape with personnel” — something most districts cannot say right now.
With contracts already signed for the 2022-2023 academic year, Henderson said he knows of only about seven unfilled positions in the district.
The high school, junior high and middle school each have two openings, and the Brookhaven Elementary has one. Brookhaven Technical Center has no openings.
To be that fully staffed at this time is “not easy to do,” Henderson said.
“There’s still a teacher shortage,” he said. “But these (we have) are quality teachers.”
Henderson said the task of interviewing and hiring candidates for teaching positions is left primarily up to the school principals, but he provides input as needed or requested.
No job employment opportunities are currently listed on the district’s website.
