Brett Boutwell of Wesson is ready to become a Bear after recently signing a letter-of-intent with the baseball program at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Boutwell did a little bit of everything this season for Wesson coach Vance Windom and his team. The senior played first base, center field and pitched for a Cobra team that went 16-9 and finished runner-up to Franklin County in Region 7-3A.

His .603 batting average is one of the highest in the state and he drove in 41 RBIs for Wesson this season.

Boutwell was named Best Offensive Player, Most Valuable Player, Team Captain, Senior Award winner and All Region 7-3A at the recent athletic banquet held by the school.

At the plate, he hit seven doubles, three triples and three home runs in 2022. As a pitcher, he struck out 41 batters in 20.1 innings of work and went 3-0 in seven appearances.

“He’s a hardworking kid that’s committed to being the best that he can be,” said Windom. “He swings it really well and will be an asset to Southwest.”
