A Brookhaven man received fatal injuries from a hit-and-run late Friday.
Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins said someone called at approximately 11:39 p.m. and reported a person lying on the side of the road, possibly struck by a vehicle.
When officers responded to the location on Union Street Extension east of Interstate 55, they found a male subject and called King’s Daughters Medical Center Ambulance Service.
Deputy Coroner John Riggs pronounced the man dead on the scene.
The victim was identified as Lionel Jackson, 41, of Union Street Extension, Collins said.
“This is an active investigation,” he said.
