The City of Brookhaven’s water system has received a grade of 4.7 out of 5 from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

Water Department Superintendent Kris Xifos said he is very pleased with the review.

“The water system side (of the review) was perfect,” Xifos told the Board of Aldermen Tuesday. “A few audit issues dropped the score from a perfect 5, but we have a strong, young water infrastructure. We’re in great shape and I’m proud of it, proud of my guys.”

Xifos said the high marks are especially encouraging considering the recent issues in the state’s capitol city.

“We’ve had trucks coming down here, buying several thousand gallons of water to take to Jackson, to schools and such,” Xifos said. “It was great to see all those 18-wheelers. I thought that was special.”

“You can be proud of your system,” he said.
