Two female teenagers were injured in a shooting this week in Brookhaven.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, a group of teens was traveling in a car on Washington Street when someone shot multiple times into the vehicle.
One teen suffered minor injuries. A second took a bullet in her chest, which stopped at the rib cage, according to Police Chief Kenneth Collins. The two were treated at King’s Daughters Medical Center and released. No one else in the vehicle was injured.
“It’s a blessing. Our prayers and thanks go to Jesus Christ for saving the two young ladies and others in the vehicle, and our sympathies to the families,” Collins said.
The chief said the violence comes from juveniles who have chosen to be criminals.
“We’ve got a lot of good parents helping us in any way they can and we’ve got some parents upholding their kids’ criminal activity. You can’t do that — it’s not going to end well. It’s going to bring death to them, their household or some other innocent person,” he said.
The case remains under investigation.
“The Brookhaven Police Department wants this community to know we are working hard to keep them safe and we’re going to work hard to bring this case to a conclusion. This is not over,” Collins said. “We’re on it.”
