Brookhaven woman extracted from wrecked vehicle, charged with DUI

At approximately 11:50 p.m. Sunday, a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling along Jackson-Liberty Road SW when it left the road and struck a tree.

The wreck occurred just north of Auburn Drive SW.

The driver, 51-year-old Tammy Marie Steele, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Brookhaven Fire Department firefighters had to cut out the windshield in order to remove the woman from the vehicle.

She was transported by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center, where she was evaluated and released. Steele, of Brookhaven, was taken by Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies to the Lincoln County Jail and booked on a charge of Driving Under the Influence, according to Sheriff Steve Rushing. She was also charged with no proof of insurance and expired driver license.
