Meet your Lincoln County candidates: Constables

Published 7:55 pm Sunday, March 12, 2023

Each Lincoln County candidate who will appear on the Aug. 8 Primary Election ballot has been contacted by The Daily Leader and asked to reply to a questionnaire.

The same set of questions was sent to each candidate, even those who are running unopposed.

The responses are offered in no particular order, and no candidate had the opportunity to see any other candidate’s answers prior to submitting their own. No edits were made for content.

Each week, we will present responses from two candidates, along with reminders of who their opponents are.

This week we present the responses from the candidates for Lincoln County Constable, Posts 1 and 2.

Lance Lewis and Justin Case are running as Republicans for Post 1. The post will be vacated because current Constable Kelly Porter is in the race for Sheriff. This race will be decided in the Republican Primary.

Incumbent Post 2 Constable Lavon Boyd is running for reelection and will face Wade Hinshaw and Kirby Ebbers in the Republican Primary. The winner of the primary will face Democrat Michael Harvey in November.

Only Lance Lewis and Kirby Ebbers returned questionnaires prior to the deadline. Their responses are as follows:

Lance Lewis, Constable Post 1

Lewis lives in the Loyd Star community and is employed by the Brookhaven Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Lincoln County School District.

What is your assessment of the previous or current occupant of this office, and, if elected, would you keep it in the same direction or change course?

In my opinion, the current constable for post 1 has done a great job. I plan on continuing in the same direction while looking for any areas to improve and acknowledge suggestions from justice court.

How would you address transparency and accountability of this office?

I will serve the constable’s office with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality. I will also be transparent with the public on all issues that are of public concern.

What are the most pressing issues in this office and how would you address them?

The most pressing issue is working as the court bailiff and serving all criminal and civil process and keeping them current and up to date. I would address it by staying in contact with justice court on a regular basis.

What are your reasons for seeking this office and why should voters elect you?

Law enforcement has always been a big part of my life, so with it being a vacancy in this office due to our current constable seeking a new position within the county, I decided to run for this elected position. If elected, I feel that with more than 14 years of experience with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Brookhaven, I am qualified and proven to fulfill the duties of this office.

Please share any family, personal information you’d like to include.

I am a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. I have been married for 22 years to Becky Allen Lewis. We have 2 children and 1 granddaughter. My family and I are members of Friendship Baptist Church. I am a full time certified Law Enforcement Officer with over 14 years’ experience with the Lincoln County Sheriffs Dept. I currently serve the City of Brookhaven and Lincoln County as Fire Investigator. I am also employed full time by the Brookhaven Fire Department as a firefighter and have been with them for 10 years. In addition to that, I serve as a School Resource Officer for our Lincoln County School District (West Lincoln). I thoroughly enjoy working with the people of Lincoln County and the City of Brookhaven. Please consider me as your next Lincoln County Constable Post 1. Thank you for your support!

Kirby Ebbers, Constable Post 2

Ebbers lives in the Heucks Retreat community and is employed by the Brookhaven Fire Department.

What is your assessment of the previous or current occupant of this office, and, if elected, would you keep it in the same direction or change course?

Lavon Boyd is a great guy and does his job well. But it’s time for new blood and a stronger candidate. If elected, I would fulfill my court duties and give my post my time and effort to protecting and keeping my community a safer place.

How would you address transparency and accountability of this office?

By giving 100 percent.

What are the most pressing issues in this office and how would you address them?

Serving court papers and being efficient.

How would your role in this office improve Brookhaven and Lincoln County?

Because constables are law enforcement officers, patrolling Post 2 and being seen keeps crime down.

What are your reasons for seeking this office and why should voters elect you?

With over 30 years combined of fire and law enforcement, my passion is to serve my community. I feel if elected for constable I can make a difference.
