A head-on collision Wednesday afternoon resulted in both drivers being transported to the hospital.

At approximately 4:25 p.m., a Ford pickup and a Toyota Camry wrecked on East Monticello Street just outside the city line near Nola Road.

A witness told Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies the truck was heading east and crossed over into the opposite lane, striking the Camry head-on, according to Sheriff Steve Rushing.

Brookhaven Fire Department was dispatched at 4:27 p.m., according to Chief Jeff Ainsworth.

“We used the ‘jaws’ to extricate one patient,” Ainsworth said, “and returned to the station at 5:58 p.m.”

“Both cars were in the ditch, one on its side,” Rushing said. “Both drivers were transported to King’s Daughters [Medical Center] to be checked out. I don’t have an update on their condition.”
