Loyd Star Attendance Center’s assistant principal Seth Lofton has been named the school’s new principal beginning with the 2023-2024 year.
“As a school district, we are always seeking to find the right person who will bring their expertise, skills and professionalism to the role, while embracing the values of our district,” said Lincoln County School District Superintendent David Martin. “I have full confidence that Mr. Lofton is the right candidate who has a vested interest in ensuring the success of the faculty, staff and students of Loyd Star. The role he has played over the last three years as the assistant principal lends him the knowledge to continue to move the school in the right direction.”
Current principal Dena Ford and her husband, Coach Brian Ford, are moving to be closer to family.
Lofton is a Loyd Star alum. He earned an associate’s degree at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of West Alabama, and a Master’s of Science in Education degree from Walden University, specializing in administration and school leadership.
“I am incredibly humbled and excited to have the opportunity to lead Loyd Star as principal,” Lofton said. “I am excited about the strides we have made this year and look forward to continuing the pursuit of excellence. My career has come full circle. This is home. I feel a deeper level of responsibility because of that.”
Lofton has taught math in grades seven through 12, and has coached baseball and football. He and his wife Kaylin have two children, Kenzie Kay and Kean, who are students at Loyd Star. They are members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
