The visiting East Central Hornets from Hurley got 16 runs on 13 hits Saturday to finish off their MHSAA 5A first round playoff series with Brookhaven High via a 16-0 win.

EC had won game one on Thursday by a 17-0 score at home. East Central (21-7-1) will meet Pearl River Central (11-7) in the second round of the 5A playoffs.

There are just two seniors on the Brookhaven High (9-20) roster in Angel “Cookie” Wilkinson and Maggie Reynaud for longtime BHS head coach Mandy Vinson.

Jayonna Pendelton, Kennedi Dickey and Gabriella Cameron all hit safely for the Panthers in their loss on Saturday. East Central had held BHS hitless in the Thursday opener.
